Machine learning strategies for materials optimization in Finland

The AScI Fellow is a Postdoctoral position with freedom and support to pursue independent and interdisciplinary research agenda and has opportunity to collaborate with research groups of the departments of Aalto University School of Science. Successful candidates shall have or are close to having a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related disciplines. Strong knowledge of machine-learning methodologies, and reasonable programming skills are required. The candidate is expected to have the interest to apply mathematics and statistics to physical problems. Specialist knowledge of computational physics techniques is also welcomed.

The position is connected with an AScI Thematic Research Programme on the same topic running from 2014 to 2017, with Principal Investigators Academy Fellow Dr. Lasse Laurson, Prof. Adam Foster, and Dr. Filippo Federici Canova. The position is also strongly linked to the Computational Nanoscience Centre of Excellence (COMP  comp.aalto.fi) at Aalto. The length of the contract period is two years.

In the review process, emphasis is put on the strength of the candidates academic track record, together with the relevance of the curriculum and research interests for the focus of the position. The candidates potential for supporting the goals of AScI, including in particular the collaboration with other Fellows at the Institute and the participating departments is also assessed.
The salary level for the Fellows is between 3500 and 4700 /month, depending on experience and qualifications. The contract includes Aalto University occupational health, and AScI supports the Fellowstravel up to 5000 /year.
