We are looking for a scientific programmer (Msc) /bio-informatics
bachelor to work on the challenging interface between Plant sciences
and Informatics.
Plant breeding research nowadays deals with a lot of data, resulting from phenotyping in field and greenhouse trials but also from high-throughput analysis of molecular markers, RNA transcripts (microarrays), proteins and metabolites. Databases are becoming indispensable to manage these data and to use them for the selection of plant material and for identification of markers, metabolites and mechanisms associated with important agronomic traits.
Within Wageningen UR Plant Breeding, we are developing a database systems which should provide us with the possibility to manage these data streams, and more importantly, integrate the different types of data using semantic web technology in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Gapminder - El mundo en gráficos estadísticos
Gapminder es una herramienta comprada por Google. Esta herramienta presenta una abundancia de gráficos que muestran como la salud, la esperanza de vida, la mortalidad, etc. están determinadas por factores sociales, como la renta, la clase social, los condicionantes del lugar de residencia, la ocupación, etc mediante sencillos gráficos a nivel mundial.

El MINISTERIO DE INDUSTRIA, TURISMO Y COMERCIO CONVOCA 4 BECAS PARA TITULADOS SUPERIORES EN MADRID
Convocar cuatro becas de colaboración para titulados superiores de cualquier grado o carrera universitaria. Los becarios colaborarán en el estudio, entre otros, del entorno comercial, el análisis de la pequeña y mediana empresa comercial, el sector de la distribución y las estructuras comerciales, los procesos de formación de precios, la proyección exterior de la distribución comercial española y el análisis comparado de los aspectos comerciales, fundamentalmente con países de la UE.
Los trabajos de colaboración se desarrollarán a lo largo del año 2012 con una duración máxima de 10 meses, entre el 1 de febrero y el 31 de diciembre, interrumpiéndose durante el mes de agosto. Los trabajos se realizaran en las dependencias de la Dirección General de Comercio Interior del Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio en Madrid.

As part of the NSF-Census Research Network (NCRN), University of Missouri and The Ohio State University are about to begin a large-scale, federally funded research program in methodology involving crosscutting research in official (survey) statistics and dynamical systems. University of Missouri, in conjunction with The Ohio State University, plans to appoint a postdoctoral fellow to be a key contributor to this research. The appointment will consist of a one-year contract with expectation of renewal for a second year. The position will remain open until filled and can start anytime.
The postdoctoral fellow will develop and implement innovative statistical methodologies intended to improve the analysis of high-dimensional spatio-temporal survey data. Research will mainly focus on development of broadly applicable methodologies in three related areas: (1) multiscale modeling of survey data, (2) spatio-temporal small area estimation, and (3) integrating information from multiple repeated surveys using hierarchical statistical models.
