The Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation (SSC) at The University of
Texas at Austin invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in
statistics. The fellowship pays a competitive salary ($65,000 per year), and carries
no teaching obligations. It also includes a discretionary budget of $10,000 for for
research support, including conference travel and inviting seminar speakers of the
fellow's choice over the course of the academic year.
While preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement
those of the current Division faculty, the fellowship is not attached to a specific
supervisor or grant. We expect that the chosen fellow will continue his or her
ongoing research program in statistics and/or machine learning; forge new research
collaborations with the faculty here at UT; and contribute to the overall
intellectual life of the Division. Minimum qualifications are an earned Ph.D. in
statistics or a related area, and evidence of excellence in research.
The Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation currently has 10 regular-rank
faculty in statistics and machine learning whose associative affiliations encompass
biology, computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, business, and psychology. We
have an aggressive growth plan in place, with aspirations to become a globally
recognized center of excellence for research and education in statistical
methodology, applied statistical modeling, computationally intensive methods, and
machine learning. The Division offers world-class computing resources in conjunction
with the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), as well as outstanding
opportunities for interdisciplinary research at one of the largest, most
intellectually vibrant universities in the country. More information about the
Division is available at www.ssc.utexas.edu.
Applicants should submit a CV and a statement of 3-5 pages summarizing their current
and proposed research program. Applicants should also arrange for two letters of
support to be provided under separate cover, and should indicate their preferred
start date.
All materials should be submitted via e-mail to
postdoc_search@ssc.utexas.edu.
The application pool will remain open until the position is filled, but screening
will begin on 15 November 2011.
