Project description
In most cases decision models are optimized using deterministic parameters. However, if the modeled system is very stochastic, a model with stochastic parameters is more realistic but often harder to optimize.
For this PhD project the specific objective is to develop optimization algorithms, which can handle single and multiple decision criteria at multiple levels.
The position is based on a grant from the Danish Council for Strategic Research to the research alliance "PigIT - Improving welfare and productivity in growing pigs using advanced ICT methods" www.pigit.net. The societal objective of the alliance is to contribute significantly to the competitiveness of the Danish slaughter pig industry while still ensuring a satisfactory level of animal welfare.
It is expected that methodologies from operations research can be used to develop generic algorithms/models which can be applied to the specific problem considered (pig production). However, other applications may also be possible, e.g. inventory theory. As a result the PhD will both have a theoretical and applied focus.
