The positions are part of the project "Foundations of nonparametric Bayes procedures". The available projects have a strong mathematical flavour, with links for instance to functional analysis, approximation theory and stochastic process theory, but are motivated by the desire to improve our understanding of practical statistical procedures.
The projects will be caried out within the UvA statistics group and there are strong ties with other Dutch groups working in this area. In the course of the projects it is also possible to spend some time working with colleagues abroad.
The duration of a PhD appointment is 4 years in total. PhD students are initially appointed at the University of Amsterdam for 1 year. In case of a positive evaluation after year one, a contract is offered for the 3 remaining years. The salary varies from about 2000 euros per month in the first year to 2600 per month in the last year.
