Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biostatistics, University of Oslo

This research fellowship provides full funding without any teaching requirements at a competitive salary for three years beginning as early as possible during 2015. The post holder will carry out leading edge research in statistical methodology related to the analysis of high-dimensional genomic data. Research theme for the postdoc will be statistical methods for high-dimensional clustered data. The fellowship is part of a project funded by the Norwegian Cancer Association.

The research group includes professor Magne Thoresen (http://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/people/aca/magnet,http://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/research/groups/measurement-error-modeling), professor Arnoldo Frigessi (http://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/people/aca/frigessi/,http://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/research/groups/stochastic-models/) and their postdocs and students. We also collaborate with the biostatistics group at the Department of Mathematics.

Qualifications and Personal Skills:
Applicants must hold a PhD degree  equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Statistics/Biostatistics or a related quantitative subject with proven competence in statistics. Proven experience in programming is required. Some knowledge of and experience with statistical genomics and penalized regression methods, e.g. the lasso, is an advantage. We seek a highly motivated and skilled person who is eager to both gain and share insight while being focused on publishing papers in leading, international journals. Knowledge of the Norwegian language is not required. However, a good command of English is mandatory. Candidates from foreign educational institutions must have completed the requirements for the doctoral degree within three months after the closing date. Candidates from Norwegian educational institutions must have submitted their doctoral dissertations for evaluation before the closing date.
