Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Applied Medical Statistics in Cambridge, UK

The post is funded for 4 years in the first instance, with likely extension thereafter. The post is jointly funded by the NIHR and a charity (Sands).
The successful candidate will work on the analysis of a prospective cohort study which has completed recruitment (July 2012) and will have completed all data collection by Spring 2013. A total of 4,544 women with first pregnancies have been studied. They have been serially scanned from their first antenatal visit (~12 weeks) with research scans performed at 20, 28 and 36 weeks gestational age. Blood samples have been obtained at the same intervals. The dataset will consist of maternal demographic characteristics, data from the serial ultrasound scans (fetal measurements and placental blood flow measures), combined with an extensive series of biomarkers. The major outcomes of interest are intra-uterine growth restriction and pre-eclampsia (i.e. pregnancy induced high blood pressure and renal dysfunction). The data represent a unique international resource and it is anticipated that a series of high profile publications will arise, with significant impact on maternity care. The cohort has been funded by the Women’s Health theme of the NIHR Cambridge Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre.

We seek a motivated person to advance the development of novel Bayesian methodology including statistical experimental design with excellent theoretical and computational skills. Ideally, applicants will have recently been awarded a PhD, or are in the final submission stage, and can provide evidence of research expertise and the ability to interact effectively with research collaborators. Women, Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

Postdoc position in AI/Biomedical informatics

Postdoctoral position available in artificial intelligence/biomedical informatics
A postdoctoral research position is available in Samantha Kleinberg’s group in the Computer Science department at Stevens Institute of Technology. Our broad focus is analysis of time series data, with an emphasis on causal inference in complex, large-scale, observational data. For researchers interested in working with challenging real-world data, our collaborations with clinicians at Columbia University and other institutions allow for unique access to patient data along with the opportunity to have a tangible impact on patient care.

Postdoctoral fellowship in climate science/decision making under uncertainty

Postdoctoral Position in Earth System Analysis to Inform Decisionmaking Department of Geosciences The Pennsylvania State University

A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Geosciences at the Pennsylvania State University. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team that analyzes two main questions:
(i) How can paleoclimatic and instrumental records improve our mechanistic understanding of the climate system and inform climate predictions?
(ii) How can this scientific information be used to improve the design of climate-risk managing strategies? The ideal candidate would have a strong background in a field such as Earth system science (e.g., atmospheric science, geosciences, oceanography), Bayesian statistics, or applied mathematics. Interests in decisionmaking under uncertainty and in collaborations involving Earth scientists, statisticians, decision-analysts, economists, and philosophers would be further advantages.
