Candidates must have a PhD is Statistics or a related branchof Science. The monthly salary is roughly around US$4,000.00. Thecompetition has been opened for 1 position of Professor Adjunto but more upto 2 additional candidates can be approved if deemed suitable. Registration will be open for 30 days from 21 March 2011 and must be filedat the registration office of Instituto de Matemática, UFRJ (at the mainUFRJ campus, Technology Center, Block C, office C-103), from 9am to 5pm.Candidates unable to register in person may nominate a local representative. Valid documentation (including certified PhD diploma and permament visa) arenot required for registration. They can be obtained at a later stage afterapproval at the competition but must be presented before taking up theposition.
DME is one of the 5 departments of the Instituto de Matemática. It isresponsible for an undergraduate Program leading to 2 degrees: Bachelor inStatistics and in Actuarial Sciences and a Graduate Program with 2 degrees:M.Sc and Dr.Sc. in Statistics. Both Programs are well established and existfor more than 3 decades. The Graduate Program has awarded 131 M.Sc. degreesand 17 Dr.Sc. degrees.
