Vacancy for a MATHEMATICAL MODELLER / RISK ANALYST of infection dynamics at the Central Veterinary Institute of Wageningen UR (Lelystad, The Netherlan

ob description

A mathematical modeller of infection dynamics and infection risks within
the Epidemiology, Crisis organisation and Diagnostics department of the
Central Veterinary Institute. Amongst the core activities of this
department are quantitative epidemiology and risk analysis of contagious
diseases in animals, zoonoses and antibiotic resistance. The modeller/
risk analyst will use his/her mathematical-epidemiological expertise
and/or expertise in risk analysis to participate in (inter)national
multidisciplinary research projects. Most of these projects are
commissioned by Dutch or European authorities and provide a scientific
basis for policy development concerning mitigation and control of
infectious diseases in livestock. In collaboration with the other
members of a multi-disciplinary project team, the modeller/ risk analyst
will analyse complex research questions using mathematical modelling
and/or risk analysis. Important in these analyses are the use of
relevant quantitative data for parameter estimation, the execution of
analytical and numerical model calculations, and the interpretation of
the mathematical results in terms of the epidemiological and/or
practical problem of interest. One of the projects in which the person
will probably participate is commissioned by the Ministry of Economics,
Agriculture and Innovation, and contains a quantitative analysis of the
effects on livestock disease transmission risks of possible future
changes, requested by public opinion and/or proposed by farming
organisations, in the prevention and control regulations. In a second
project, commissioned by EFSA, a generic method is developed and tested
for the analysis of introduction risks of exotic livestock diseases as a
result of import of animals and animal products.

Academic training in a quantitative field, preferably completed with a
PhD degree. The candidate has experience in mathematical modelling in
population biology, epidemiology and/or in risk analysis. Required are
proven scientific creativity and an interest in
