Concurso de cortometrajes de Estadística

The steering committee of the International Year of Statistics announces a video contest to help launch this worldwide celebration of the positive impact of statistical science. We invite videos of four minutes in length or less that illustrate

• how statistics impacts individual lives, improves society, or in general makes the world more a better place
• how statistical thinking can be brought to bear on important issues of our day
• interesting careers in statistics (tell the world why your job in statistics is a great job, or why it is interesting and fun to be a statistician)

Thanks to John Wiley & Sons, Inc., cash prizes of $250-$1000 will be offered for the best videos, with special prizes for the best videos by a person or persons 18 years of age or less and the best non-English language videos. (Providing us with a written translation or providing English subtitles would be especially helpful.)
Entries will be judged on their statistical content and their entertainment value. All submissions must be the original design and creation of the entrants and must not infringe anyone else's copyright protections. Submissions must be posted on YouTube with a link sent to Tom Short, chair of the Statistics2013 Video Contest review committee, tshort@jcu.edu, by February 28 , 2013.
Winning and honorable mention videos will be posted on the International Year of Statistics website throughout 2013.

El comité directivo del Año Internacional de Estadística organiza un concurso de cortos patrocinado por la editorial John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Los videos presentados deberán tener una duración máxima de cuatro minutos, en los que se refleje alguno de los siguientes aspectos:

• Cómo la Estadística está presente en la vida cotidiana o mejora la sociedad
• Cómo el pensamiento estadístico puede ser utilizado en cuestiones importantes de nuestro tiempo
• Por qué es importante el trabajo que realizan los profesionales de la Estadística y por qué la Estadística es una carrera profesional interesante en la actualidad

Todos los trabajos han de ser originales, respetando los derechos de autor de otras personas e instituciones, y deberán ser publicados en YouTube antes del 28 de febrero de 2013. El enlace de YouTube deberá remitirse por correo electrónico a Tom Short (tshort@jcu.edu), presidente del comité de evaluación. El jurado valorará tanto el contenido estadístico como el entretenimiento de cada video.

Los ganadores recibirán un premio en efectivo comprendido entre 250$ (185€) y 1000$ (739€), con un premio especial al mejor trabajo realizado por personas menores de 18 años y al mejor video en lengua no inglesa. Para este último será especialmente útil ofrecer subtítulos o acompañar el video con una traducción escrita en inglés.
