Statistician (Big Data), Tesco in Welwyn Garden City UK
As a Data Scientist, you will be joining a growing, highly analytical
team of Data Scientists focused on delivering a better understanding of
the business based on big data. Our core work involves integrating and
analysing Tesco and external data sources, building models that learn
from these data, and providing tools that allow the business to make
decisions from these models. For example we have worked on developing
demand forecasting systems, optimising online prices, developing new
picking algorithms, and linking web and mobile browsing data with store
purchases to better understand the customer journey across all touch
points.

Contexto de trabajo
El Laboratori d'Anàlisi de Sistemes Socio-Ecològics en
la Globalització (LASEG) es un grupo de investigación nuevo reconocido por la Generalitat de Catalunya (2014
SGR
736). El LASEG esta formado por 25 investigadores (De los cuales 14 son estudiantes de doctorado), mayoritariamente ubicados en l’Institut de
Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (http://icta.uab.cat/) de la
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). La investigación del grupo se centra en 1) los cambios socio-ambientales en diferentes contextos y escalas espacio-temporales, dando énfasis en sus efectos en el bienestar humano, el conocimiento tradicional y las formas locales de gestión de recursos naturales. 2) las estrategias locales de mitigación y adaptación que intentan contrarrestar el impacto de los cambios. La orientación teórica y metodológica de LASEG integra 1) múltiples disciplinas; 2) métodos de recogida y análisis de datos cualitativos y cuantitativos; 3) un enfoque geográfico variado que incluye investigación en países desarrollados y subdesarrollados 4) múltiples escalas de análisis temporal y geográfico.
La cantidad de proyectos gestionas por LASEG y la naturaleza del propios proyectos ha generado y continuara generado una gran cantidad de datos socio-ambientales. Para ayudar a gestionar y analizar estos datos, LASEG busca un técnico especialista en tratamiento de datos y estadística

Duties and Responsibilities: We are
seeking researcher with expertise in statistical analysis and mathematical
modelling for infectious diseases. A qualified candidate should be able to
develop and implement mathematical models for evolution and transmission of
infectious diseases, both independently and collaboratively. The expected
research focuses include but are not limited to 1) flexible statistical or
mathematical methods for the spatio-temporal spread of infectious diseases, and

Estadístico / Actuario en Indra Bacelona

Frikidística un serie sobre la Estadística en clave de humor, una forma de divulgación
Estudiantes de Estadística y Periodismo en colaboración de la Oficina de Comunicación de la Universidad Miguel Hernández han realizado una serie de humor "Frikidística". La serie esta dirigida por el estudiante de Periodismo de la UMH Abel Viudes.
Sinopsis:
Fricente y Mingo, dos personajes harto excéntricos y peculiares, tendrán que convivir con Irene, una chica inteligente y ejemplar. Los tres son nuevos alumnos de la UMH y se ponen en contacto para compartir piso antes de comenzar su andadura universitaria en la titulación de estadística. Borja, alumno de segundo curso y algo más común que ellos, será quien les alquile habitación. Fricente se enamora perdidamente de Irene y tratará de seducirla a toda costa, tarea que no le será nada fácil. Para ello contará con la inestimable ayuda de sus compañeros de piso y la oposición de Belén, amiga de Irene y compañera de clase.

Hace una semana Aintzane me escribía un correo con algunas dudas sobre las becas pre-doctorales, en ese correo me ponían en antecedentes y me comentaba que recientemente había acabado el Máster Universitario en Estadística e Investigación Operativa de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña y que actualmente estaba buscando trabajo. Aprovechando ese correo le pedí si podía escribir un artículo breve contando su experiencia con esta formación de post-grado para Estaidea. "Mi experiencia sobre el Máster universitario en Estadística
e Investigación Operativa (MEIO) que actualmente es (MESIO).
En junio 2012 finalicé la Licenciatura en Matemáticas en la
Universidad Complutense de Madrid, en la que a la vez fui becaria en la Unidad
de bioestadística del hospital La Paz de Madrid. Después de mi muy positiva
experiencia en el hospital, me di cuenta de que necesitaba aprender muchísimo
más a cerca de técnicas estadísticas más complejas que las que había estudiado
en la Licenciatura. Es por ello, que
comencé a mirar un máster de estadística o más bien bioestadística en España.
El de la Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya-Universidad de Barcelona me
pareció el más completo bien por temario, por créditos (cuando yo comencé era
de 120 créditos, ahora es de 90) y por estructuración en general.
Mesa redonda sobre casos reales de aplicación Big Data
La Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) de
Elche ha organizado la mesa redonda “Casos reales de aplicación de Big
Data”, que tendrá lugar mañana jueves, 2 de octubre, a las 18:30 horas,
en el Club Información (Avda. Doctor Rico, 17 – Alicante). La entrada es
libre, limitada al aforo de la sala.
En
la mesa intervendrán el catedrático de Organización de Empresas de la
UMH, José María Gómez Gras, el profesor de la UMH y socio fundador de
Koodos Lab Alejandro Rabasa, el director de Marketing y Desarrollo de
Negocio de Gold Car, David Contreras, y el coordinador de Proyectos de
Invat.tur, David Giner.
Durante la jornada, se expondrán casos
reales desde la perspectiva empresarial y se mostrará una demo práctica
del funcionamiento de un proceso de análisis de Big Data.
Debido al auge de internet, la mayoría de
empresas recopilan grandes volúmenes de información diariamente.
Algunas de ellas lo hacen de manera continua, a través de portales de
comercio electrónico o incluso a través de recogida de datos
directamente de la “nube”. El manejo de tal cantidad de datos requiere
que las empresas incorporen técnicas especiales que permitan su
integración y manipulación de manera segura y eficiente, así como la
implantación de métodos de análisis preparados para extraer la
información valiosa que se oculta dentro de esos grandes volúmenes de
datos, con el objetivo de obtener ventaja competitiva.Becas pre-doctorales una buena opción para estadísticos/matemáticos que quieran investigar
Hace unos días recibí un correo de una
lectora del blog que me comentaba que estaba buscando trabajo como estadística
en algún centro de investigación, hospital,… para trabajar como bioestadística.
Y me comentaba que lo único que ha encontrado hasta ahora son becas de
doctorado o también conocidas como pre-doctorales.
Aprovechando este correo he decido
hablaros sobre las becas pre-doctorales, podríamos definirlas como una
financiación que recibes durante 3 años por parte de una entidad pública para
realizar una tesis doctoral, aunque los criterios para poder disfrutar de estas
becas suelen ser un tanto exigentes. Aun así en mi opinión es una buena
oportunidad primero para integrarte en el mundo de la investigación como
estadístico, empezar a coger experiencia en un campo, trabajar y aumentar tu
formación académica. Por lo tanto, en mi opinión recomendaría que si de momento
no has encontrado trabajo y tienes un buen expediente académico (>7.5 de
media y a ver acabado la carrera en los tres últimos años) y te gustaría
trabajar como estadístico en ciencias de la salud solicites una beca
pre-doctoral.
