The Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE) is a Center of Emphasis in the Hospital's Research Institute. The center promotes research on how to best manage pediatric illnesses, disseminates knowledge gained from this research, and partners with other groups at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to implement best practices to improve the quality of care delivered to children in the Children's Hospital healthcare network. Within the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness, the Biostatistician will provide statistical services for investigators, including performance of statistical analyses, preparation of data sets, and writing of statistical results.
Duties include: Perform statistical analyses, according to the timetable that is specific to each grant or study. Determine specific tests to use, in conjunction with the principal investigator, under the direction of a Research Biostatistician or the Division Chief of Biostatistics and Epidemiology
* Analyze clinical and pre-clinical data related to the evaluation of treatment or procedures performed.
* Analyze clinical or pre-clinical data related to a population description (natural history study) of a disease.
* Program new methodology for analysis, using a programming language, when such programming is not yet commercially available as software.
* Program and/or design randomization schemes for upcoming trials. Prepare data files for statistical analysis.
* Ensure integrity of data using general tests for validity (i.e. maximum/ minimum points, graphics) before performing any statistical analysis.
* Request resolution of outlier data immediately upon discovery
* Correct faulty data as requested by researchers
* Design programs to screen for errors in data to prevent incorrectly entered or coded information which may bias results
* Design data manipulations to create derived variables or to alter the structure of the database to assist in the appropriate analyses. Prepare reports of statistical findings
* Prepare listing tables and summary tables to describe data, including results of statistical tests.
* Create accurate and meaningful charts, plots, graphs of results for use by the investigator
* Produce accurate and complete reports of analyses and interpretation of results for use by investigator Prepare statistical sections (design, sample size, statistical analysis plan) of proposals in preparation for submission to the Institutional Review Board.
Requirements: Masters degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or related field. Minimum of 2 years experience with SAS Programming or other statistical software programming, and statistical graphics. Minimum of 2 years experience working with large administrative databases. Experience with programming language; experience on the PC. Experience with UNIX is desirable. Experience with medical data is desirable. Ability to work independently and take initiative when necessary. Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects. Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines. Strong ethical conduct and ability to work with confidential and highly sensitive information. Good interpersonal skills; ability to work with faculty and medical researchers. Good oral and written communication skills. All CHOP employees who work in a patient building or who provide patient care are required to receive an annual influenza vaccine unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption.
