Duties and Responsibilities: We are
seeking researcher with expertise in statistical analysis and mathematical
modelling for infectious diseases. A qualified candidate should be able to
develop and implement mathematical models for evolution and transmission of
infectious diseases, both independently and collaboratively. The expected
research focuses include but are not limited to 1) flexible statistical or
mathematical methods for the spatio-temporal spread of infectious diseases, and
2) efficient statistical or mathematical computing methods for the analysis of
complex spatial data. Competitive compensation packages will be provided, and
the exact level will be based on the applicant’s qualification and experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop a range of mathematical and statistical models for the transmission and evolution of emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases:
* Modelling emergence and establishment of pathogens; assessing risk factors for zoonotic transmission;
* Real-time analysis of outbreaks of newly emerging pathogens;
* Optimizing syndromic surveillance in resource-limited settings for detection of case clusters;
* Optimizing intervention strategies for containment of emerging pathogens, while minimizing immunological escape of the pathogens via molecular evolution.
2. Collate and analyse epidemiological and other types of data relevant to the research project;
3. Develop and maintain collaborations within research institutes, universities, organizations, and the general community;
4. Present scientific findings to colleagues and at conferences, and publish in high quality journals.

Position Qualifications: Education: PhD in
mathematics, biostatistics, epidemiology, computational biology, computer science
or a similarly quantitative discipline.
Research experience: At least two years of experience in mathematical and/or statistical models for infectious diseases (including dissertational work).
Language: speak and write fluently in mandarin Chinese and English.
Company Information: Division of
Infectious Diseases (DID) is a department in Chinese Center for Disease Control
and Prevention (China CDC). To fulfill its mission of preventing disease,
disability, and death caused by a wide range of infectious diseases, reducing
disease burden, and promoting people’s health, DID is dedicated to disease
surveillance, outbreak investigation, and coordination of prevention and
control of infectious disease in China. Together with other institutes harbored
in China CDC, such as National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and
Prevention, National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, and
National Institute for Parasitic Disease Control and Prevention, DID provides
technical advice to Ministry of Health (MOH) and technical support to
nationwide health care and disease control facilities. DID is also active in
methodological and practical research, aiming to help formulating and testing
intervention programs and control strategies.
Benefits: Competitive compensation
packages will be provided, and the exact level will be based on the applicant’s
qualification and experience.
Application Information: Interested applicants should
send a current curriculum vitae, together with a statement about why do you
think you are qualified for this position and a brief description of your
future research plans, by email to yenan@chinacdc.cn or by mail to:
