Statistician, The University of Pittsburgh

The Family Medicine department is seeking a Master’s level candidate for a Statistician position that has familiarity with medical research. The Statistician will act as both research assistant and statistical analyst for various multi-site research projects. The Statistician will be responsible for maintaining and managing databases for several research studies including documenting all procedures and writing methods sections for manuscripts conducting complex statistical analyses.
 Candidate will be asked to (1) draw blood for research protocols on an as needed basis. This may require travel to clinical sites. 10%; (2) maintain and manage data bases for several studies, documenting all procedures and writing methods sections for manuscripts. Conduct statistical analyses. 85%; and (3) help develop research protocols, write grants, or other written communications. 5%

This position requires the incumbent to use good judgment and discretion, act independently when applicable, appropriately prioritize multiple tasks, meet immovable deadlines and maintain a professional demeanor. Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and software such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel and statistical software such as SPSS and SAS; and must be willing and able to learn other statistical software as required. Competence in linear and logistic and hierarchical regressions using SAS and/or SPSS required.

  • Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and software such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel and statistical software such as SPSS and SAS; and must be willing and able to learn other statistical software as required. Competence in linear and logistic and hierarchical regressions using SAS and/or SPSS required.Must work well with team members with shared responsibility and with study participants.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to different sites throughout the extended Pittsburgh metropolitan area and must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have significant statistical analytic and data base management experience.
  • Must be willing to learn and master new statistical techniques.
  • Must have training and experience in phlebotomy, current certification and willingness to be recertified if necessary.
  • Familiarity with University procedures and medical terminology is preferred. Good to excellent writing skills preferred
