Job Description:
The Information & Computing Lab (http://iclab.det.uvigo.es) at the AtlantTIC Research Center (http://atlanttic.uvigo.es) seeks a research assistant and a PostDoc in the following areas:
- Learning Analytics: Oriented towards data treatment for online learning tools with the aim of realising descriptive, exploratory, causal or predictive analyses for students, professors and educational institutions.
- Social Media Analytics: Oriented towards the treatment of data coming from the social networks with the objective of examining the nature and characteristics of the relations and structure of social networks.
- Crowd-sensing & Urban Analytics: Oriented towards the use of the citizen seen as a sensor of his environment with the objective of establishing behaviour patterns which allow the detection of alert situations or the setting up of needs or improvements for that environment.
- Business Intelligence: Oriented towards the use of data analysis for making business decisions starting from the information brought freely by clients or potential clients in social environments.
The selected candidates will join the different research groups in AtlantTIC (http://atlanttic.uvigo.es). Positions are funded by the participation in several research projects. Participation to workshops, conferences, and project meetings is expected.
CONTRACT CONDITIONS
Initial appointment for one year, with annual renewal subject to performance. Expected start date is February 2014.

DESIRABLE BACKGROUND FOR POSTDOC POSITION
- A Ph.D. degree in Mathematics or Computer Science is required;
- Knowledge and experience in any of the areas mentioned above;
- Good verbal and written skills in English are required;
- Strong publications in international conferences and journals in any of the mentioned areas;
- Experience in the organization, management and training of technical staff/students is a plus;
- Communication, computing and interpersonal skills are important;
- Capacity to work both independently and within a team.
