Professor of Quantitative Social Sciences, Glasgow, UK

Social network researchers are welcome to apply – the Big Data Centre offers many opportunities for large scale social network analyses. The MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit is developing its research programme in dynamic social network analysis (SIENA, Agent Based models) and complex systems models in public health.

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English speaking world. As a member of the prestigious Russell Group of leading UK research universities, we are a broad-based, research intensive institution with a global reach. Home to one of the UK's largest groups of social scientists, our College of Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a research leader of international standing to the new position of Professor of Quantitative Social Sciences. Based in the School of Social and Political Sciences, which has recently been awarded a Nuffield Q-Step Centre and an ESRC Big Data Centre, the appointee will lead the development of research and research-led education in the application of quantitative methodologies to the analysis of social phenomena. He or she will oversee major research funding bids, particularly in the areas of Quantitative Social Science and Big Data, and will be at the centre of a highly active network of scholars.
The appointee will come from a subject area represented at the School – which includes Politics, International Relations, Sociology, Criminology, Public Policy and Urban Studies- but will have a broad academic perspective enabling them to contribute to the development of the social sciences as a whole.

Outstanding research and leadership credentials are the key requirements of the role. In return, we offer you the opportunity to make Glasgow a byword for international excellence in quantitative social sciences research, taking full advantage of the possibilities for collaboration across the College and the wider University in areas such as health, computing, and engineering.
