Sr. Biostatistician / Sr. Quantitative Analyst The Johns Hopkins University

Company Information: The Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, founded in 1988, is a leader in
statistical applications in cancer research. We conduct methodologic research in biostatistics and bioinformatics to advance cancer research, provide biostatistics and bioinformatics support to medical investigators in cancer and other conditions, and teach research methodology in a wide variety of academic programs in the Johns Hopkins Schools of Public Health and Medicine. The Division, currently with 14 doctoral-level and 8 masterslevel biostatisticians or bioinformaticians, has strong research and teaching connections with many groups throughout Johns Hopkins University conducting quantitative research in cancer, especially the Department of Biostatistics in the Bloomberg School of Public Health, as well as ties with the Center for Computational Biology and the Center for Computational Genomics.


Position Title: Sr. Biostatistician / Sr. Quantitative Analyst

Duties and Responsibilities: Consults with clinical and laboratory investigators to determine their needs with respect to statistical design of studies and proposes appropriate designs. Recommends appropriate methodologic procedures for statistical analysis; overall descriptive statistics; exploratory data analyses, including graphs, summary statistics, and necessary transformations; and confirmatory data analyses, including statistical tests and/or models. Performs sample size and power calculations, generates randomization schema, and writes statistical sections for research protocols and manuscripts. Prepares written reports of statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results, and conclusions. Makes significant contributions of conclusive thought to publications. Writes statistical design, methods, and analysis sections for research proposals. Writes computer code to evaluate study designs and to accomplish the actual statistical analyses. Interprets and analyzes the results of statistical analyses. Prepares interim and final reports of studies. Discusses with colleagues, investigators, and supervisor the need for any additional analyses and/or special methodologic requirements. Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and team. Prepares progress reports as needed. Participates on the Protocol Review Committee.

Position Qualifications: Masters degree required in biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related field. Minimum of 5 years related experience required. Experience with computers and
knowledge of at least one operating system (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Mac OS 10, Linux, etc.) Ability to use the internet and web-based scholarly search engines. Expertise in at least one statistical programming suite or language (e.g., SAS, Splus/R, Stata, etc.). Expert knowledge of procedural-oriented statistical languages, such as SAS, Splus, R, and/or SPSS. In addition, a knowledge of other programming languages, such as FORTRAN, PASCAL, or C, is helpful.
