Position: Senior Statistical Analyst, Global Burden of Disease Independent Advisory Committee

Based in the Executive Office, London School of Hygiene & Tropical
Medicine with some international travel (primarily Seattle, Geneva and
Brussels). An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and highly
skilled statistical analyst to join an international-level,
multi-disciplinary global health initiative, the Global Burden of
Disease Independent Advisory Committee. This committee will provide
guidance and inputs to the Global Burden of Disease Project, based at
the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) of the University
of Washington in Seattle, USA.
Working directly with Professor Peter Piot, Director of the London
School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, in his capacity as founding
Chair of this Independent Advisory Committee, the successful candidate
will be responsible for all analytical work and scientific report
preparation to support the Committee. The post-holder will review and
test the methodology used for draft and published work on the Global
Burden of Disease provided by IHME, assessing whether the data are
robust and identifying gaps and opportunities to improve the disease
burden estimates. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are providing
funding for this 5 year project.
The post-holder will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline
such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, or
economics and be expert in quantitative analysis. He or she will have
experience of presenting complex information in a relevant field and a
close familiarity with quantitative data management of large and complex
databases. He or she will work closely with the Global Burden of
Disease secretariat and other groups across the world engaged in this
area.
The appointment is available immediately, and is currently funded to
2018. The deadline for applications is 3 January 2014. Interviews will
