Associate professor.University of Bergen, NORWAY

Duties & Responsibilities: The candidate should have his/her research activity primarily within time series/econometrics, biostatistics/medical statistics, computational statistics or mathematical statistics related to the research activities in the statistics group. Emphasis will be given to proven will and ability to work well in teams. The statistics group has extensive teaching responsibilities. The successful applicant must be able to teach at all levels in the statistics education, including introductory classes, and supervision of Master’s and PhD students. The teaching language will normally be Norwegian; however, the successful candidate should be able to teach in English on request. Basic teaching training is a requirement. The successful candidate will be offered appropriate training if this requirement has not been met before the appointment. Associate professors employed on a permanent basis have the opportunity to apply for promotion to full professor according to competence. The annual closing date for such applications is 15 September. The successful applicant must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at any time. Company Information: The University of Bergen is a young, modern university. Most of its premises are concentrated in the heart of the city of Bergen. There are about 14,500 students enrolled, and 3,200 faculty and staff. The Department of Mathematics has 32 permanent faculty members, 9 of which in pure mathematics, 3 in and mathematical didactics, 14 in applied and computational mathematics and 6 in statistics. The department has 7 administrative staff members. In addition, there are a number of PhD students and externally funded positions. The position as associate professor is within the research group in statistics.
Position Qualifications: Applicants must have achieved a Norwegian doctorate in statistics or equivalent abroad by the closing date for applications.

Salary Range: Starting salary at grade 57 in the Civil Service pay grade table (code 1011/pay framework 24.1); currently NOK 468,400 gross p.a. Automatic salary increases will occur at fixed intervals within the pay framework (wage range 57–65). In the case of particularly highly qualified applicants a higher salary may be considered.

Benefits: Up to 1 year parental leave. Beneficial pension schemes /insurances / housing loans in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. Employees under 60 years of age, who work a 5-day working week, have the right to 25 working days holidays, while employees over 60 have the right to an additional 5 days’ holiday.
