The Department of Biostatistics has several openings for staff MS Biostatisticians. The department includes 20 staff biostatisticians, 8 staff IT experts, and 35 faculty in an environment that emphasizes education, collaboration, and computing. Duties & Responsibilities: Biostatisticians work closely with biomedical collaborators, contributing to study design, generating reports, writing grants, and preparing manuscripts. Effective communication with medical researchers is of major importance, as is curiosity about diseases, treatments, patient outcomes, and biology. Biostatisticians are expected to learn new statistical and programming techniques as part of their professional development at Vanderbilt by participating in any of the department’s graduate course offerings, short courses, weekly computing clinics, daily research clinics, and research working groups.

Position Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, a Master’s degree in Biostatistics or Statistics and at least 12 months of professional experience in a statistical setting. Candidates without professional experience, or whose degree is in a highly quantitative field other than biostatistics or statistics, or who possess a PhD in a related field but lacks professional statistical experience, should discuss exceptional attributes in the application cover letter. The position requires command of a statistical computing language: R (preferred), Stata (preferred), or SAS. Experience in other languages (SQL, Perl, Python, Ruby, C/C++) should be detailed in the cover letter.
