We are currently seeking a self-motivated and well qualified researcher to contribute to the theoretical and applied tasks of the research group. This will provide an exceptional opportunity to work closely with academia and Rio Tinto at the intersection of mathematical modelling and mine operations. You will be expected to build research areas, engage in academic publication of research, and may also have the opportunity to teach at postgraduate and industry levels.
You will have a Masters or PhD, or in the process of being awarded one, in applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, geology/geostatistics or related discipline, be a team player with good communications skills and satisfy the following key requirements:
- Analytical and numerical mathematical skills in linear algebra and calculus
- Expert knowledge of one or more of the following: statistical signal processing; modern machine learning techniques; stochastic data fusion
- Experience in software development in Matlab and/or C++
- Desire to work on both theoretical and applied modelling tasks, potentially with field-work based testing and validation
- Geostatistics
- Industry engagement
