Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will join a collegial and productive research
team focused on the statistical analysis of human genetic studies.
Analytical responsibilities will include genetic association analysis of
common and rare disease variants. Collaborative efforts will include
an emphasis on targeted analysis of candidate genes and SNPs in studies
of cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and diabetes.
Company Information:
The Center for Public Health Genomics at the University of Virginia is
seeking a biostatistician / statistical geneticist to work with faculty
members and work on collaborative efforts at the cutting edge of human
genetics and genomics research. Funding for the position is guaranteed
for one year, and future availability is based on the contingency of
funding.
Position Qualifications:
Necessary qualifications for the position include a Master's or higher
degree in Biostatistics, Genetics, Epidemiology, or a related field;
knowledge of statistics and genetics; experience with statistical
software (R, Splus or Matlab); a strong work ethic; the ability to work
independently combined with willingness to work in a highly interactive
and collegial group; and excellent written and oral communication
skills. Desired qualifications include experience working with
large-scale multi-center studies; working knowledge of existing tools
for genetic analysis and data management; C, C++, and/or Perl
programming skills; and experience working in a Unix / Linux
environment.
